PA Flyers Legislative Update

The Pennsylvania legislature has convened for the 2025-26 session.  Republicans control the senate, and the democrats have a razor thin margin in the house.  Historically the democrats have attacked the traditions of bird shooting and most hunting in general.  This is due, in part, to a strong push by animal rights activists who have a lot of money and play on the emotions of people who simply don’t know what’s going on.

Currently there are two concerns that we are watching.  One is a co-sponsor memo by Representative Warren (D-Bucks).  The language has not resulted in a bill yet.  Last session this bill was hurried through the house judiciary committee and did not advance on the floor.  The language in these type bills is not clear and threatens hunting of all types.

The second is House Bill 400 by Representative Stambaugh (R-Perry) which makes the passenger pigeon an extinct species.  This bill could be amended to include other items that are not in our interest.

The Flyers have a presence in Harrisburg, and we are currently meeting with leaders in judiciary, game & fish as well as the chamber leaders, to make our story known as we fight to preserve these cherished Pennsylvania traditions.
